About This Access Site
Enid Lake sits on the Yocona River in northeast Mississippi near Oakland, offering a quiet, family-oriented setting for camping and water recreation. The boat ramp at Persimmon Hill Campground provides access to this 78-mile waterway known as one of America's top 10 fishing destinations. A $5.00 boat ramp fee applies per vehicle. The campground itself offers eight campsites with full amenities, including a nearby beach and playground. For reservations and facility information, call (662) 563-4571.

**Water and Flow Conditions**: The Yocona River is a large river system (stream order 7) with an average flow of 1,259 cubic feet per second and moderate gradient of 4.2 feet per mile. Water levels are controlled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control, typically lowered from July 1 through January 1. During this drawdown period, some boat ramps become inoperative, though low-water ramps remain available. Check current spillway gate openings and water levels by calling the facility or consulting the Vicksburg District Daily River Bulletin before launching.

**Additional Resources**: Enid Lake has 15 recreation areas around its shoreline, with multiple day-use boat ramps available. The surrounding 44,000 acres of Corps of Engineers land offers extensive forest recreation opportunities. Nearby campground alternatives include Plum Point and Long Branch Campgrounds, both within 10 miles.
