About This Access Site
Fenske Lake offers a gravel boat ramp near the campground off CR 116 (Echo Trail), providing convenient public access to this 130-acre lake located about 10 miles northwest of Ely. This access point is ideal for paddlers and boaters looking to explore a scenic Superior National Forest lake that serves as a gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and is part of popular canoe circle routes in the region.

The lake supports fishing for bass, northern pike, crappie, and sunfish, and features a grassy beach and accessible fishing pier. A nearby campground offers reservable sites for those planning overnight trips, along with amenities including a 1-mile nature trail. **Note:** The Fenske Lake Campground is currently undergoing renovation with active machinery, so some facilities and campsites may be temporarily unavailable. Backcountry sites on the lake are available first-come, first-served and are accessible only by boat or foot, with basic amenities like fire grates and latrines.
