Firth Bridge offers a concrete boat ramp with good parking and restroom facilities, maintained by the City of Firth on the Snake River in southeast Idaho. This is a popular access point on a major river system—the Snake River is a significant waterway (Stream Order 9) with substantial flow averaging nearly 50,000 cubic feet per second. However, water levels can be highly variable, so be prepared: high water can create swift conditions with minimal eddy space near the ramp, while low water may require dragging your boat to launch. The ramp works best when water levels are moderate.
Paddlers and boaters should note that immediately downstream you'll pass under a train bridge and Highway 20 bridge in quick succession. After passing under these structures, move quickly to the right side of the river to avoid being swept into unintended downstream sections. The Snake River in this area has a moderate gradient (15.8 ft/mile average) and swift current (average velocity 10.81 ft/s), so this is best suited for intermediate to experienced boaters comfortable with moving water.
The Firth Bridge area provides access to scenic country near the Hell's Half Acre Wilderness Study Area, featuring a unique 5,200-year-old lava flow landscape. Bingham County maintains an excellent network of 12 Snake River access points, making this region ideal for multi-day paddling trips.
