Fish Bone Creek Primitive Boat Launch is a government-owned, public-access ramp located in Dixie County near Cross City, Florida. This is a **small boats only** facility—ideal for kayaks, canoes, and other shallow-draft vessels. The primitive ramp provides access to Fishbone Creek and Horseshoe Cove, where brackish water conditions dominate. Timing your launch with higher tides is recommended, as water levels rise significantly in these backwater areas, making access easier when conditions are favorable.
To reach the ramp, take County Road 357 toward Shired Island and turn onto 800th Road just before you arrive at the island. The ramp itself is unimproved and basic, so expect a rustic experience typical of primitive Florida launch sites. This location provides excellent access to the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge area, which features 20 miles of scenic Suwannee River paddling and 30 miles of coastal marshes along the Gulf of Mexico—making it an ideal jumping-off point for exploring this protected natural area.
