Fishtrap Dam

**Location & Access:** Located on Dam Road about one mile southwest of Fishtrap Lake near Boulder Junction, this access point provides public boat launch facilities on the Manitowish River. The primary put-in is at the High Lake Boat Landing, 3.5 miles east of Highway M on Highway B, where parking is available. This site is ideal for paddlers planning day trips or overnight excursions in the Fishtrap Dam watershed area, which encompasses approximately 2,300 acres of connected open water including Fishtrap, Partridge, Grassy, and Nixon Lakes.

**Navigation & Portaging:** Paddlers should be aware that **portaging around Fishtrap Dam is required** at this location. The historic earth and timber dam, originally built for logging purposes, creates a significant barrier. Plan your route accordingly, and note that the surrounding watershed offers navigable water access suitable for both canoes and kayaks, though some areas have difficult or unimproved access.

**Nearby Amenities:** Moosehead Lake Camp (a reservable campground) is located within 10 miles, making this a convenient base for multi-day trips.
