About This Access Site
Located near Bryson City on NC 28 North about 25 miles from US 19/74, this public boat launch provides access to Fontana Lake on the Tuckasegee River. The ramp and fishing pier are both accessible and accommodate both motorized and non-motorized watercraft. This is a convenient put-in point for paddlers exploring the scenic waters in the Nantahala National Forest, near Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The Tuckasegee River system is a substantial waterway—a large river (Stream Order 7) draining 734 square miles with an average flow of over 1,800 cubic feet per second. The landscape features significant elevation change (1,976 feet total drop across 65 miles), creating a dynamic river environment. Paddlers launching here will be entering the reservoir section, which offers calmer conditions compared to the river's upper reaches. Two nearby reservable campgrounds—Deep Creek Group Camp and Deep Creek Campground—provide convenient overnight options for planning extended paddling trips.
