Flat Lake provides a convenient boat ramp access point to Fort Peck Lake, the fifth-largest man-made reservoir in the United States. Located 7 miles east of Fort Peck on Montana Highway 24 in McCone County, this site features a concrete boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats onto the expansive reservoir. The access area also includes a fishing pond for anglers interested in a smaller water option.
The site is well-positioned for exploring Fort Peck Lake's numerous bays and coves. Paddlers should note that while the main access road is paved, alternative routes in the area are gravel or dirt roads. Two campgrounds within 10 miles—West End Campground and the reservable West End Tent and Trailer Campground—make this a good base for multi-day paddling trips. Given the size and scale of Fort Peck Lake, check current water conditions and weather before heading out, and plan accordingly for the open water you'll encounter.
