Located in Bigfork on the north shore of Flathead Lake, the Wayfarers Unit offers a convenient boat launch for paddlers, boaters, and anglers. This state recreation area provides standard amenities including toilet facilities and a seasonal boat ramp, making it a reliable put-in point for exploring Montana's largest freshwater lake. The site sits near scenic wildflower displays along the shoreline and offers access to the expansive waters of Flathead Lake.
Flathead Lake is a large, deep glacial lake spanning over 188 square miles, making it ideal for various water activities including kayaking, canoeing, and recreational boating. The Wayfarers Unit is one of thirteen public access sites maintained around the lake by Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. **Note:** A tribal recreation permit is required for recreational use, as the southern portion of the lake is within the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Flathead Reservation. Paddlers should be prepared for variable wind and wave conditions typical of large mountain lakes. The adjacent Flathead National Forest offers additional outdoor recreation opportunities in the surrounding area.
