About This Access Site
The FM 1427 access point provides a one-lane concrete boat ramp on the west side of Lake Quitman's dam, located off CR 2966 north of Quitman in Wood County. This facility offers parking for approximately 30 vehicles and serves as the primary public launch for recreational boating on this 814-acre reservoir. The lake, impounded since 1962 on Dry Creek (a tributary of the Sabine River), reaches depths up to 25 feet and is popular for both fishing and recreational paddling.

The ramp is operated by Wood County (903-878-2238). Additional services including fuel, supplies, and boat maintenance are available through nearby Hank's Smokehouse and Wife's Marina (903-878-7226). This location is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters seeking access to a stable, moderate-sized freshwater lake in East Texas.
