About This Access Site
FM 521 Park provides public access to the lower Colorado River near Wadsworth, approximately 4 miles west of town via Highway 60 and FM 521. This ramp offers launch access to the last 6 miles of the Colorado River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and portions of Matagorda Bay. The facility is maintained by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and includes restrooms, picnic tables, and grills. As a county park developed by LCRA, it operates 24 hours daily with no usage fee.

The Colorado River at this access point is a major river system with an average flow of 2,220 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 7.75 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for significant current and tidal influences given the river's proximity to the Gulf. The downstream access makes this location ideal for kayakers and canoeists paddling toward Matagorda Bay and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The park also includes camping facilities, making it a useful waypoint for multi-day paddling trips between Riverside Park and Matagorda Beach.
