The FM 969 Bridge crossing provides a convenient boat ramp access point on the Colorado River near Bastrop, approximately 5 miles northwest of town. This site features a concrete boat ramp maintained by Texas Parks and Wildlife, with picnic tables available for users. The access area is located at the intersection of FM 969 and FM 1209, with the ramp on the downstream left side. This location serves both as a put-in for upstream floats and a take-out point for paddlers coming from areas upriver.
The Colorado River at this location is a major waterway with significant flow—averaging 2,220 cubic feet per second with an average velocity of 7.75 feet/second. Paddlers should expect moderate current and a river with a 3.2 feet-per-mile gradient typical of this section of Central Texas. The river's substantial size and flow make it suitable for experienced kayakers and canoeists; beginners should be cautious of current conditions. Note that the immediate area around the ramp is restricted to loading and unloading watercraft only, so plan accordingly for your visit.
