The Fort Mill Access Area is a public boat ramp located on the north side of the Catawba River just downstream of Lake Wylie Dam near Tega Cay in York County. This is a well-maintained facility featuring a paved boat ramp, access pier, parking area, restrooms, and handicap accessibility. The location makes it an ideal launch point for paddlers and boaters heading onto Lake Wylie, a large 13,443-acre reservoir, or for accessing the Catawba River below the dam.
The site is reached via New Gray Rock Road (State Road 251) west of Fort Mill. Lake Wylie itself offers calm water conditions suitable for kayakers and canoeists of various skill levels, with 325 miles of scenic shoreline to explore. For those interested in paddling the Catawba River downstream of the dam, Duke Energy provides a detailed Canoe Map for trip planning. Additional nearby marinas and access points—including Allison Creek, Nivens Creek, and Ebenezer Access Areas—offer alternative launching options if needed.
