Fourchette Creek is a year-round access point on the north shore of Fort Peck Lake, located approximately 60 miles south of Malta in Phillips County, Montana. The site features a concrete boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger watercraft, along with picnic tables, fire rings, a shade shelter, and vault toilets for visitor convenience.
Fort Peck Lake is a large reservoir offering expansive paddling opportunities surrounded by the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses over one million acres of public land. The remote location means paddlers should come prepared—the area recommends bringing extra food for at least 3 days in case of unexpected delays. Access roads are primarily gravel or dirt, so check conditions before traveling, especially during wet weather. This is an ideal launch point for exploring the scenic backcountry of the CMR refuge and accessing the broader lake system.
