About This Access Site
Fowler's Bluff is a public boat ramp located on the south (east) bank of the Suwannee River in Chiefland, Levy County, and serves as a convenient access point for exploring the lower Suwannee. Situated approximately 16 miles upstream from Suwannee Town, this ramp is the last major public launch before reaching the river's coastal reaches. The ramp provides access to the famous 20-mile section of the Suwannee River that flows through the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge, where paddlers can experience the river's transition from freshwater to coastal marsh habitat along the Gulf of Mexico.

Kayakers and canoeists should be aware that water conditions on the lower Suwannee can be variable—the river is known to run quite clear but may also experience low water periods. Boaters are advised to watch for floating debris, particularly after high water events, and maintain safe speeds accordingly. The Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) maintains this ramp, and it's worth confirming current conditions before your trip, especially during drought or flood periods. For paddlers planning multi-day trips or wishing to explore different sections of the river, Clay Landing provides an alternative upstream access point.
