About This Access Site
Fox River Lock - South provides access to the Fox River, a substantial waterway flowing through central Wisconsin. This large river (Stream Order 7) features an average flow of 2,346 cubic feet per second with a moderate gradient, making it suitable for both motorized and non-motorized boaters. The access point offers both a concrete ramp and sandy shoreline suitable for launching kayaks and canoes. A large DNR parking area is available at the end of a small dirt road south from Eureka Lock Road, marked by signage for the Eureka Lock and Dam project.

Paddlers should be aware that most locks on the Upper Fox River are currently inoperable, with the exception of the Eureka lock system. This historic hand-operated lock system once made the river accessible throughout its length, but conditions have changed considerably. Be prepared to scout ahead for current navigation conditions and any portage requirements. The nearby Charles Park District facilities include seasonal restrooms, drinking water, shelters, and picnic areas—useful amenities for day trips or longer paddling excursions on this 202-mile river system.
