About This Access Site
French Lake is a 346-acre recreational lake located in Dayton, Hennepin County, offering public boat access via a concrete boat ramp. The lake has a maximum depth of 50 feet and is suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats up to approximately 12-18 feet, though larger vessels may be accommodated depending on ramp conditions. As a popular destination for both paddlers and anglers, French Lake provides good access for a day of paddling or fishing without launch fees (unless a vehicle permit is required).

The lake is known for excellent fishing opportunities, with walleye, northern pike, bass, crappie, and sunfish commonly caught here. French Lake is fed by several small streams and is part of the Cannon River watershed, making it a scenic paddling destination. Before launching, check current ramp conditions and water levels, especially during spring runoff or dry periods, to ensure safe access for your vessel.
