About This Access Site
The Galilee boat ramp provides access to Point Judith Pond, Rhode Island's second-largest salt pond, offering excellent paddling opportunities for kayakers and canoeists. Located on Great Island Road at the southeast side of the Great Island Bridge in Narragansett, this state-owned ramp features a double-lane concrete plank launch. Parking is available adjacent to the ramp, with the launch on your left as you approach.

Point Judith Pond offers diverse paddling with numerous coves and inlets to explore, though paddlers should be aware the pond can be busy, particularly during peak seasons. From the Galilee area, you can paddle under the bridge to explore the working fishing port of Galilee, venture north around Great Island, or head upstream toward the Big River Management Area. Note that at low tide, you may need to wade slightly to reach deeper water. The pond connects to Reynolds Pond downstream (via Route 3 and I-95), providing additional exploration options. Nearby, both the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge and Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge offer complementary paddling and wildlife viewing opportunities in the region.
