About This Access Site
Located in Hopewell near Lamar County, the Gambill Wildlife Refuge boat ramp provides access to the 600-acre Lake Gibbons, a popular destination for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters. To reach the site, take US 82 west from Paris for 1.3 miles to FM 79, then continue west on FM 79 for 3.3 miles to FM 2820. Turn left and follow FM 2820 west for 2 miles to the refuge entrance on the right.

Lake Gibbons offers a calm-water paddling environment suitable for kayaks and canoes, with opportunities for wildlife viewing year-round. The 600-acre refuge is particularly notable for bird watching, especially during winter months when migratory waterfowl are present. The lake also supports fishing and swimming. Paddlers should note that this is a refuge area, so wildlife protection regulations may apply—check local guidelines before your visit.

**Note:** Access and facilities are subject to change. Verify current conditions and any specific regulations with Lamar County Parks before planning your trip, as ramp availability and refuge hours may vary seasonally.
