**Access & Facilities**
Gateway Park and Preserve offers public boat ramp access to the Iowa River, located just ½ mile north of Marengo. The 131-acre preserve features developed infrastructure including a concrete boat ramp, docks, and paved parking. This is a no-wake boating area, making it ideal for kayakers and canoeists seeking a peaceful paddling experience. The park also provides access to a 41-acre lake and 12-acre pond created from previous sand and gravel excavation.
**Recreation Opportunities**
Beyond paddling, the preserve supports fishing, hiking, biking, and bird watching, with an arboretum and bird blind on-site. The Iowa River location provides opportunities for exploring local waterways, and paddlers can access other regional boating areas including Sturgis Ferry Park in Iowa City (with its own ramp 1700 S Riverside Dr), which connects to the broader Iowa River corridor. The no-wake restriction helps protect wildlife and makes this a good launching point for calm-water paddling and exploration.
