**Location & Access:** Giles French Park is located on the Columbia River near Rufus, Oregon, within the Lake Umatilla reservoir system created by John Day Dam. The park is easily accessible from Interstate 84 at Exit 109—simply head north toward the Columbia River and turn right into the park. The boat ramp is situated at the western end of the facility.
**Facilities & Conditions:** The park offers a boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats onto the Columbia River. On-site amenities include vault toilets and a trash dumpster, though there is no fresh water available. The area can experience strong winds, which paddlers should be prepared for. Primitive camping is available seasonally (April 1–October 31). Note that the park is adjacent to an active railroad line on its southern boundary, which may be audible at night.
**Recreation & Notable Features:** This location provides good access for fishing and paddling along the Columbia River. The eastern section of the park features a distinctive cliff face, adding scenic value to the area. As a day-use facility with no reservations required, it's a straightforward launching point for exploring Lake Umatilla and the Columbia River corridor in the Columbia Plateau region.
