About This Access Site
Glenn Shoals Lake is a 1,200-acre impoundment located approximately 1.25 miles north of Hillsboro in Montgomery County, Illinois. The lake features two concrete boat ramps available for public use: one at the North Marina and another at the South Marina near the dam (700 Glenn Shoals Drive). With a maximum depth of 40 feet and 24 miles of shoreline, the lake provides ample space for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating.

The South Marina offers the most comprehensive facilities for boaters, including public restrooms, parking, a pavilion, and a seasonal marina restaurant with fuel and boat permit sales. Those planning to launch should note that Lake Glenn Shoals has no outboard motor horsepower limit, meaning both paddlers and power boaters share the water. The concrete ramps at both locations provide reliable access regardless of water conditions. Anglers should be aware that pole and line fishing only regulations apply at this lake, along with all other statewide Illinois rules.
