About This Access Site
Glenn Shoals Lake is a 1,200-acre impoundment located approximately 1.25 miles north of Hillsboro in Montgomery County, Illinois. The lake features 24 miles of shoreline with a maximum depth of 40 feet, making it suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. There are no horsepower restrictions for outboard motors on this lake.

The South Marina near the dam (700 Glenn Shoals Drive) offers the most amenities for boaters, including two concrete launch ramps, public restrooms, a pavilion, and parking. A seasonal full-service restaurant, fuel, boat permits, and slip rentals are also available at the South Marina. An additional concrete boat ramp is located at the North Marina. Both launch sites provide good access for putting in kayaks, canoes, and larger boats.

The lake operates under standard Illinois fishing regulations, with pole and line fishing only. Paddlers should note the no-horsepower-limit policy means the lake can experience significant motorized traffic, so staying aware of surroundings is recommended when launching or paddling.
