Grand Chenier Park

**Launch Conditions & Limitations:** Grand Chenier Park offers public boat access to the Mermentau River, a shallow coastal waterway in Cameron Parish. **Important note for paddlers:** the ramp is steep and the river is notably shallow with poorly marked channels. Low tide conditions can make it difficult or impossible to retrieve boats from trailers, so timing your launch with water levels is critical.

**Better Alternatives:** For kayakers and canoeists, the public launch south of the Freshwater Bayou locks is recommended as a more reliable alternative, offering better water depth and easier access compared to the Grand Chenier ramp.

**Area Characteristics:** The Mermentau River in this area supports active fishing and crabbing, with species including redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. The landscape is typical of coastal Louisiana's brackish waterways. This location is best suited for experienced boaters familiar with shallow-draft navigation and tidal considerations.
