Great Herring Pond's boat ramp, located on the Bourne/Plymouth town line in Barnstable County, is a convenient launch point for kayaks, canoes, and small motorized boats. The shallow gravel ramp is well-suited for paddle craft and shallow-draft vessels. Limited parking is available for approximately 6 vehicles, making this a good option for smaller groups or solo paddlers. To reach the access from Route 6, take Herring Pond Road north and turn left onto Little Sandy Pond Road; the ramp entrance is immediately visible on your right at the pond's southern tip.
Beyond paddling, Great Herring Pond is popular with anglers targeting smallmouth bass. The surrounding area offers additional outdoor recreation opportunities, including nearby Massasoit National Wildlife Refuge and the 14-mile Cape Cod Canal pathway system for walking, biking, and fishing. Before visiting, check current water quality conditions, as cyanobacteria advisories have been issued in the past. This access site is ideal for a casual day paddle or fishing trip but plan accordingly given the limited parking capacity.
