Grizzly Creek provides boat ramp access to Howard Prairie Lake, a 4,550-foot elevation reservoir located approximately 40 miles southeast of Medford and 21 miles east of Ashland, Oregon. This is a no-fee day-use facility with a boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The access point is located on Hyatt Prairie Road—from I-5 Exit 14, head east on Highway 66 for 1 mile, then take Dead Indian Memorial Road north for 17 miles, and turn onto Hyatt Prairie Road to reach the park.

Howard Prairie Lake is a popular destination for paddlers and anglers, offering opportunities for trout and bass fishing using various techniques. The lake is managed by Jackson County Parks, and nearby camping options include North Fork Campground and Beaver Dam Group Campground, both within 10 miles. The facility typically operates seasonally from May through October, though exact dates may vary. Be sure to continue on the loop trail past the top of 5,922-foot Grizzly Peak for the best views on the hike. Clear days offer outstanding views of the Cascade Mountains, including Mt. McLoughlin, Mt. Shasta, and Diamond Peak. In early summer, wildflowers put on a spectacular show along the trail. Know Before You Go:Open year-round; snow may make the trailhead inaccessible by vehicle.Day-use only.Restrooms are available at the trailhead.No drinking water; carry your own water.
