About This Access Site
Gunflint Lake is a large, deep recreational lake (4,009 acres with a maximum depth of 200 feet) located near Grand Marais in Cook County's Gunflint Ranger District. The boat ramp is situated on the south end of the lake and provides access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. From this launch point, paddlers can explore the main lake or continue to Little Gunflint Lake. The concrete ramp includes docking facilities for mooring boats.

This access site serves as the gateway to six backcountry campsites managed by the U.S. Forest Service on a first-come, first-served basis. Each campsite includes a fire grate, latrine, and may have a picnic table. If you plan to camp, remember to hang food packs, fully extinguish fires before leaving, treat or boil all water, and wash dishes away from the water source. The sites offer a near-wilderness experience for paddlers seeking backcountry camping in the Superior National Forest.
