About This Access Site
Haines Island Park provides access to the Alabama River, a major waterway that flows for over 300 miles across the state. The boat ramp at this location makes an excellent put-in or take-out point, particularly in the spring when water levels are higher.

The Alabama River is a large, navigable river classified as a major stream, with an average flow of over 34,000 cubic feet per second and an average gradient of 0.4 feet per mile. These characteristics make it well-suited for kayaking, canoeing, and boating. Paddlers can explore the river's 60+ mile stretch that encompasses Claiborne Lake, home to largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish.

The boat ramp is located at the base of the Buhrstone Questa, a prominent escarpment in the area. Visitors can park near the adjacent picnic pavilion and playground. While the campground facilities at Isaac Creek are reservable, the boat ramp access point itself does not have fees or reservations required. Boaters and paddlers should review river conditions and plan their trips accordingly based on the Alabama River's size and flow.
