Hamilton Branch State Park offers two boat ramps providing access to J. Strom Thurmond Lake, one of the largest Corps of Engineers reservoirs east of the Mississippi River. Located at 111 Campground Road in Plum Branch, SC, the park serves as a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats seeking to explore Thurmond Lake's 70,000 acres of water and 1,200 miles of shoreline.
The facility is well-equipped for a full day of paddling or boating, with amenities including 150 waterfront campsites, picnic shelters, a playground, and hiking trails. A General Store operates daily from 9am-5pm for supplies and information. As a reservoir rather than flowing river, Thurmond Lake offers calmer, more predictable water conditions suitable for various skill levels, though paddlers should be prepared for motorboat traffic. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required if you plan to fish.
