Hampton is one of three public boat ramps providing access to Lookout Point Reservoir, a scenic 4,300-acre impoundment on the Middle Fork Willamette River near Westfir. The ramp is conveniently located off Oregon Highway 58 and serves as an excellent put-in point for kayakers and canoeists exploring this mountain reservoir surrounded by Willamette National Forest. The site offers straightforward vehicle and boat access for non-motorized watercraft, though be aware that an active railroad runs adjacent to the property with frequent train traffic and associated noise.
Paddlers should note that motorized boats are not permitted on this section of the reservoir. Water levels vary seasonally and are managed by Lookout Point Dam; check the US Army Corps of Engineers website for current reservoir conditions before planning your trip. Two nearby campgrounds—Black Canyon and Ivan Oakes—offer convenient overnight options if you're planning an extended paddling adventure. The Middle Fork watershed continues downstream with multiple access points all the way to Springfield, making it possible to plan multi-day paddling routes along this scenic river corridor.
