About This Access Site
Heartland Park offers a public boat ramp providing access to Fish Hook River Dam Lake near Park Rapids in Hubbard County. This county-maintained access point is conveniently located off US-71 on the west shore of the lake, making it an easy launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The concrete ramp is suitable for hand-launching smaller watercraft as well as trailer boats.

Fish Hook Lake features diverse fish habitat with a mix of emergent vegetation (bulrush), floating-leaf plants (waterlilies), and submerged plant beds alongside open water areas, making it appealing for both paddling and fishing. If paddling upstream into Fish Hook River itself, be aware that water levels and current can vary, particularly if the dam is generating power—flows can reach 4-5 mph during generation. The park also includes a public beach area, making it a good destination for a full day on the water. As a Hubbard County Parks facility, this is one of 25 public accesses maintained throughout the county.
