The Helena River Park (West) boat ramp provides direct access to the mighty Mississippi River in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas. This 60-foot boat ramp is one of the largest public access points on the lower Mississippi, making it well-suited for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorized boats.
The Mississippi River is a major waterway, flowing over 1,900 miles from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. At this location, the river has an average flow of 685,500 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 11.2 feet per second, so paddlers should exercise caution, especially in high water conditions. The river has a relatively gentle gradient of 0.8 feet per mile on average.
The boat ramp is located within the Helena River Park, which offers additional amenities like a nature boardwalk, picnic areas, and a sandy beach. To access the ramp, take US 49 Business to the second traffic light and turn right. Visitors will pass the courthouse and WWI memorial before reaching the ramp. An elevated boardwalk leads right to the river's edge, providing excellent views of the Mississippi.
