Hickory Knob State Park offers convenient boat ramp access to J. Strom Thurmond Lake, a large reservoir on the Savannah River in the Piedmont region of South Carolina. The ramp is specifically designed for park visitors and provides docking facilities for those launching kayaks, canoes, and other boats. Day-use visitors are charged a fee for ramp access, while overnight campers enjoy free ramp use as part of their stay.
The park is well-suited for recreational paddling and boating on the lake's calm, impounded waters. In addition to water access, Hickory Knob offers picnic areas, swimming, a full-service restaurant, and scenic views of the lake.
