About This Access Site
**Location & Access**
Highway 52 Access is located off 482nd Ave just north of Green Island in Bellevue, Jackson County, where US Highway 52 crosses the Maquoketa River. This is a convenient put-in point for paddlers looking to explore this scenic Iowa waterway.

**What to Expect**
The Maquoketa River in this area flows through the Driftless Area, a geologically unique region characterized by rolling terrain and elevation changes between 600-800 feet. Paddlers should be aware that the river has a dam downstream near Maquoketa (Lakehurst Dam), which requires a portage on the left side. This access point is suitable for kayaks, canoes, and other small watercraft heading downstream toward other access points such as Royertown Bridge, Chenelworth Bridge, and Morehead Canoe Access.

**Planning Your Trip**
Be sure to check current water conditions and plan your route carefully if paddling toward Lakehurst Dam. Other nearby access points offer take-out options, making this stretch suitable for day trips of varying distances. Exercise caution regarding any dams or obstacles downstream before launching.
