About This Access Site
Located 10 miles east of Isabella in the Superior National Forest, Hogback Lake offers a public boat ramp with an earthen launch suitable for motorboats and other watercraft. The access site features ample parking for several vehicles and restroom facilities, though potable water is not available. To reach the ramp, take the Wanless Road (USFS 172).

Paddlers and boaters will find this a convenient launch point for exploring Hogback Lake and the surrounding area. A narrow channel connects Hogback Lake to Canal Lake, which is passable by canoe or kayak in higher water conditions—lower water levels may require paddling with your motor up. The lake is situated in the Superior National Forest backcountry, with primitive camping options available on a first-come, first-served basis. Anglers, hunters, and hikers will find this a good base for accessing the region's outdoor recreation opportunities.
