About This Access Site
Homer Lake is an 80.8-acre impoundment in Homer, Champaign County, with two concrete boat ramps for easy launching. The lake has a maximum depth of 24 feet and average depth of 8.4 feet, making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. The south end features the main park area with the largest ramp, parking, and amenities including a park house with information and refreshments.

The lake is peaceful and scenic, with no gas motors allowed—only electric motors are permitted, creating a quiet paddling environment. Paddlers can explore diverse sections: the north end features a bridge passage near a residential subdivision, the middle section is heavily tree-lined with abundant wildlife (herons, osprey, and deer), and the south end includes the dam and heaviest fishing activity. Note that the far western side of the lake has additional motor restrictions.

The site offers amenities including picnic areas, picnic shelters, and wheelchair-accessible facilities. Free parking is available. This makes Homer Lake an excellent choice for recreational paddlers seeking a scenic, low-traffic water body with good facilities.
