About This Access Site
Homer Lake is an 80.8-acre recreational lake in Champaign County with two concrete boat ramps available for launching kayaks, canoes, and small boats. The lake features a maximum depth of 24 feet and average depth of 8.4 feet, making it suitable for various paddle craft. The south end of the lake offers the main park facilities, including the largest boat ramp, parking, picnic areas, and a park office where you can obtain information and refreshments.

Paddling conditions are ideal for recreational users, as no gas-powered motors are permitted on the far western side of the lake, creating peaceful paddling zones. The lake's diverse geography—from a tree-lined middle section abundant with wildlife like herons, osprey, and deer, to a fun bridge crossing at the north end near residential areas—offers scenic paddling opportunities. Electric-powered fishing boats are common in the mornings but do not significantly detract from the quiet paddling experience.

The access site is free to use and features wheelchair-accessible facilities, picnic shelters, and picnic tables. For the best experience, paddlers may want to explore the tree-lined middle and southern sections for wildlife viewing, while the north end offers an interesting bridge passage.
