Horn Rapids Park in West Richland offers a convenient boat launch for paddlers and boaters on the lower Yakima River. The site features a paved launch, information board with Tapteal Water Trail maps, toilet facilities, picnic area, and parking. This is a popular access point along the scenic lower Yakima River corridor and serves as an excellent put-in for day trips and multi-day paddling adventures.
**Important Note for Paddlers:** If you're launching here, be aware that Upper Horn Rapids (Mile 6.7 downstream) is the critical take-out point before the Diversion Dam, located just 300 yards below that ramp. Parking at Upper Horn Rapids can be limited, so plan accordingly. The Tapteal Trail system offers additional hiking and exploration opportunities in the area. Note that drinking water is not currently available at the park—bring your own supplies.
The surrounding area provides excellent recreation opportunities, including access to the Horse Heaven Hills Wildlife Area on the opposite side of the highway, with trails suitable for hiking and wildlife viewing. Bike racks are available at some access sites for shuttle operations.
