Horseshoe Bend Mill Pond offers a convenient launch point just north of town for paddlers and anglers accessing the Payette River in Boise County. The 13.5-acre pond provides a calmer water alternative to the swift main river channel and is designated as a Family Fishing Water, making it popular for both recreation and fishing opportunities. The setting is pleasant, with easy access to the pond and nearby Payette River corridor.
**Important Launch Considerations:** Be aware that this ramp presents some challenges for boat launches. The ramp is quite steep, and launching requires entering the swift river current at a 90-degree angle, which can be difficult for some vessels. Carbureted boats in particular may experience operational issues due to the steep approach. Paddlers should assess conditions carefully before launching, especially if you're new to the site. The area is closed from sunset to sunrise.
The site provides access to the broader Payette River Corridor, which offers varied recreational opportunities along this scenic river flowing from central Idaho's mountains. Nearby, the Montoir Wildlife/Recreation Management Area adds additional paddling and wildlife viewing options in the region.
