About This Access Site
Horseshoe Lake is a 1,890-acre shallow lake located at Horseshoe Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area just south of Olive Branch, IL. This access point offers boat ramp facilities on the north shore of the park, providing launch options for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters. The lake maintains an average depth of 4-5 feet with a maximum depth of 5-6 feet, making it suitable for paddling and recreational boating.

**Key Information for Paddlers:** A 50-horsepower motor limit applies to all watercraft on the lake. Multiple boat ramps are available for public use. Horseshoe Lake maintains a connection to the Mississippi River through drainage ditches, which supports a diverse fishery including channel catfish, bass, crappie, bluegill, carp, and buffalo. Boat fishing is permitted year-round except during waterfowl season. The area is also notable for winter bald eagle viewing opportunities. Plan accordingly if visiting during protected seasons.
