Houghs Neck Maritime Center

The Houghs Neck Maritime Center provides public boat launch access to the Weymouth Fore River in Quincy, with a ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and other car-top vessels. Located approximately 1.5 miles upriver from the river's entrance, this facility offers direct access to the southern portion of Boston Harbor. The launch is situated on the north side of the river with an adjacent parking lot, making it convenient for paddlers looking to explore the Fore River system.

From this access point, paddlers can paddle downstream toward the river's mouth and Boston Harbor, or upstream along the Fore River. The area includes nearby attractions such as the Monatiquot River Walk (approximately 1 mile away) and connections to the greater Boston Harbor waterway system. Georges Island, home to a historic visitor center with ranger services and exhibits on Fort Warren, is also accessible from this water body for those interested in exploring the harbor's historic sites.

The Visitor Center on Georges Island occupies a 1906 historic brick building that originally stored and serviced mines for the minefield located in Boston Harbor. The Visitor Center has a ranger-staffed desk, island and harbor information, a short informative movie about Fort Warren, an exhibit on the island's history, and restrooms. All are available during operating hours.
