About This Access Site
The HWY 37 & Belvidere Boat Ramp provides access to the Perquimans River, a medium-sized tidal river in northeastern North Carolina. The Perquimans River stretches 31.32 miles from its source to the Albemarle Sound, with very minimal elevation change over its length. This ramp is located in Belvidere, Perquimans County, positioning paddlers and boaters near the middle section of the river with about 15 miles of waterway upstream and downstream to explore.

The river itself is characterized by slow, gentle flow with an average velocity of 1.06 feet per second and a very gradual slope of 0.1 feet per mile. These conditions make the Perquimans River suitable for paddlers of varying skill levels, particularly those seeking calm, leisurely paddling experiences. The river has a substantial drainage area of 205 square miles and carries an average flow of over 200 cubic feet per second, indicating it's a reliable waterway that maintains adequate water levels throughout the year for small boats and kayaks.

As a tidal river that flows to the Albemarle Sound and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean, paddlers should be aware that water levels and current direction may be influenced by tidal action. The Belvidere access point offers a convenient launching location for day trips, fishing expeditions, or longer paddles along this scenic coastal plain waterway.
