Hyde Road provides a well-developed boat launch on the Yakima River near Richland, with ample parking and pit toilet facilities. The site marks the beginning of the lower section of the Yakima River, where the water becomes notably slower due to the influence of the McNary Dam impound on the Columbia River. This access point is best suited for paddlers planning full-day float trips, as the 12.3-mile stretch to Wye Park offers limited alternative exit points.
The middle section upriver from Hyde Road to Snively Road features the most winding passages and travels through suburban terrain, offering excellent bird watching and fall color viewing opportunities. Expect slower, broader water characteristic of this lower Yakima River section. Winter visitors should be prepared for icy conditions—bring a rope to help drag your boat up the ramp if needed. Walk-and-wade opportunities are limited at this launch unless you're willing to bushwhack into surrounding areas.
