About This Access Site
Indian Mounds Recreation Area provides easy access to Toledo Bend Reservoir via one-lane boat ramp suitable for all boat types. Located off FM 139 south of Joaquin in Sabine County, this facility offers year-round access with no launch fees. The area features 37 camping sites (both tent and RV), picnic tables, grills, and portable restrooms. Two boat ramps are available at the recreation area, with parking provided for trailers and vehicles.

The Sabine River, which feeds Toledo Bend Reservoir, is a major waterway with an average flow of over 9,100 cubic feet per second and a relatively gentle 0.8 ft/mile gradient. These conditions make the reservoir ideal for kayakers and canoeists seeking calmer paddling compared to the river's natural flow. Fishing is a primary activity here, and the area is well-suited for recreational boating throughout the year. For facility information or questions, contact the Sabine River Authority of Texas at (409) 565-2273.
