Instanter is a basic concrete boat ramp providing access to the 1,370-acre East Branch Clarion River Lake in Elk State Park. Located upstream of Portland Mills near Wilcox in Elk County, this is one of two public launches serving the lake. The ramp is a single-lane facility with limited, primitive parking for 8-10 vehicles, and it functions best during higher water levels. Be aware that this site can become congested during spring and summer weekends, and motorboat traffic on the lake is typically heavy.
Paddlers and anglers will find diverse fishing opportunities here, with the lake stocked for musky, walleye, and lake trout, while the 12-mile river section offers bass, panfish, and other species. The lake allows unlimited horsepower boating, so expect mixed-use traffic if you prefer quieter paddling conditions. Two nearby campgrounds—East Branch Campground and East Branch Campground Dump Station and Showers (both reservable)—offer convenient overnight options for extended trips. Plan ahead during peak seasons, as limited parking may fill quickly.
