Island Lake County Park provides public boat access via an earthen ramp located on the north side of Island Lake in Northome, Itasca County. The access point is situated within the county park on Victoria Avenue, south of I-694, making it easily accessible for day trips. A fishing pier is also available on the west shore, just south of the ramp. The lake encompasses 225 acres with a maximum depth of 32 feet, offering decent paddling space for kayakers and canoeists.
All watercraft types are permitted on Island Lake, provided they meet Minnesota DNR safety requirements—including kayaks, canoes, motorized boats, and sailboats. The earthen ramp is suitable for launching small to medium-sized watercraft. Beyond paddling, the lake is popular with anglers seeking walleye, panfish, and muskies. Note that shore fishing also occurs in and around the channel underneath I-694, so be aware of foot traffic near the launch area.
