About This Access Site
Island Point is a public boat launch located on Lake Hartwell in Anderson County, South Carolina, approximately 6 miles east of Hartwell, Georgia, off US Highway 29. This access point provides a convenient launching location for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats on one of the Southeast's most popular reservoir systems. The facility features a boat ramp and courtesy dock to accommodate various vessel types.

Lake Hartwell, formed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963, offers substantial paddling opportunities across its expansive surface. The underlying Savannah River system is a major waterway with significant flow (averaging over 12,000 cubic feet per second) and considerable drainage area, making Hartwell Lake a substantial body of water suitable for both day trips and extended paddling. The lake's dam-created environment provides calmer conditions than the free-flowing river, making it accessible for paddlers of varying skill levels.

For planning your visit, note that the boat ramp operates year-round. For specific details about seasonal hours, access fees, amenities, or to reserve facilities, contact the Hartwell Lake Project Office at 888-893-0678. Singing Pines Recreation Area, the official facility name, also offers picnic areas, designated swim beaches, and a fishing pier for visitors seeking additional recreation options.
