About This Access Site
Jim's Landing provides access to the upper Kenai River, a large and fast-moving waterway in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. This boat ramp is the final access point before the river enters a narrow canyon section, making it a popular takeout for paddlers and floaters.

The Kenai River is a substantial river, measuring nearly 100 miles long with an average flow of over 1,000 cubic feet per second. It has a relatively steep gradient of 4.2 feet per mile, creating fast-moving, Class III conditions that are best suited for experienced non-motorized boaters. Anglers may find trout, Dolly Varden, and salmon species depending on the time of year.

The boat ramp at Jim's Landing has a gravel parking area, but visitors should be aware that parking can fill up during peak fishing seasons. The new ramp is expected to open on March 26, 2023, though construction may continue through the summer. Nearby camping is available at the reservable Hidden Lake Campground, located within 10 miles of the access site.
