About This Access Site
Jo Bonner Campground offers convenient year-round access to Canyon Ferry Reservoir on the Missouri River, located 30 miles east of Helena near the northeastern end of the lake. The facility features a concrete boat ramp with a seasonal floating dock, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and larger motorboats. The campground provides 27 paved campsites, a day-use picnic area, and an accessible fishing dock. From Townsend, take MT Highway 12/287 north, turn right onto Spokane Creek Road for 4.6 miles, then continue on Canyon Ferry Road for 7.9 miles before turning onto East Shore Drive.

Canyon Ferry Reservoir spans 33,500 surface acres with 96 miles of shoreline, offering excellent conditions for paddling and fishing for rainbow trout, perch, ling, and walleye. The area is popular year-round—summer brings jet skiers and windsurfers, while winter attracts ice fishermen and skaters. Camping fees apply only during peak season (first weekend of May through second weekend of September). For reservations and current conditions, contact the campground at 406-475-3921.
