**Overview:** Located near Salem in Oconee County, Jocassee 1 is one of four public boat ramps providing access to Lake Jocassee, a large, deep mountain reservoir managed by Duke Energy. The lake offers 75 miles of scenic shoreline across 7,500 acres, with an average depth of 157 feet and maximum depth around 351 feet. This is a popular destination for kayaking, fishing, and waterfall tours, with excellent opportunities to view wildlife and explore remote coves.
**For Paddlers:** Kayakers and canoeists should note that this ramp can be busy with larger motorized boats. If you prefer a quieter paddling experience away from power boats, consider using Devil's Fork remote ramp instead. Kayak rentals, guided tours, and shuttle services are available through Jocassee Lake Tours and The Jocassee Outdoor Center. The lake's size and depth make it suitable for intermediate to advanced paddlers; plan accordingly for changing conditions on this expansive reservoir.
**Camping & Amenities:** If you're planning an overnight trip, boat-in camping is officially limited to Double Springs campground at Devil's Fork State Park, with designated parking at the northernmost boat ramp. Cherry Hill Campground, a reservable facility, is located within 10 miles. The area offers excellent fishing for bass and trout, including state-record catches, plus access to hiking trails and scenic waterfall tours.
