About This Access Site
The Kettleson Hogsback Complex provides access to West Hottes Lake via a well-maintained gravel boat ramp ideal for small watercraft, including kayaks and canoes. Located in the Orleans area of Dickinson County, the access point is reached by taking Highway M-49 to the Kettleson Hogsback Wildlife Management Area entrance road, then following the paved driveway north for approximately 1/4 mile to the ramp. The facility offers parking and serves as a gateway to a sprawling 2,000+ acre wildlife complex featuring lakes, marshes, and grasslands.

This area is part of an Important Bird Area with nearly 300 bird species documented, making it an excellent destination for paddlers interested in wildlife viewing. Beyond water access, the complex offers over 2.5 miles of scenic trails that circle West Hottes Lake and Marble Lake, showcasing the distinctive Hogsback ridge—a glacial moraine formation with views of landscape shaped by ancient glaciers. The site's emphasis on wildlife habitat means paddlers should be prepared for wildlife activity and respect any seasonal closures that may protect nesting birds or waterfowl.
